About Wilmington, IL - Happy to be your hometown Heating & Air Conditioning Contractor!
Wilmington is a small town in Will County, Illinois. The weather in the area is seasonal meaning that the winters are cold and the summers are hot. Not far from Chicago and situated along Route 66, it became a popular tourist stop when people came to see the “Gemini Giant.” It is a Muffler Man. Muffler Men are large fiberglass statues that are used as tourist attractions or for advertisement. They are typically found in the United States are predominantly found in smaller towns… and Wilmington is certainly a small town. With only about 5,000 residents, this suburban town is quaint, quiet and cozy as compared to some of the larger cities nearby.
This Midwestern area is charming and peaceful but it may be surprising to find out just how much it has been featured in popular film in the last couple of decades. A bus station in Wilmington was used for some scenes in “Planes, Trains and Automobiles” with Steve Martin. Scenes from that film were also shot in nearby Coal City. Coal City is also referenced in “The Blue Brothers.” Visit Aurora and go eat at the White Castle where “Wayne’s World” was filmed. That’s one heck of a photo op! If you find yourself in Joliet, be sure to visit the Rialto Square Theatre where scenes from “Stir of Echoes” were filmed. You could spend an entire cold, winter’s day on a self-directed film tour of the area!
Want to soak up some Vitamin D on a pretty spring or summer day? Warm weather activities in this area are plentiful and easy to find. Nearby Plainfield is the oldest community in the whole of Will County and you can stroll the downtown area which has many shops, restaurants and other points of interest. This historic district is ideal for pedestrian traffic. In addition, there is the Morris Commercial Historic District in Morris and you can also visit the historical sites in downtown Lockport.
